Namal to Lead Sri Lanka Against South Korea!
The Sri Lanka rugby team led by dynamic Namal Rajapaksa, left for Seoul yesterday to take on South Korea in the first match of the Asian Five Nations rugby tournament in Seoul, South Korea on April 26 (Saturday).
This is the second time that utility player Namal Rajapaksa who could play either as hooker or number eight will be leading the national rugby team having led the country in the Serendib Cup rugby tournament in October last year in which Sri Lanka scored a historic win over Poland.
Sri Lanka qualified to play in the top division having won the Asian Five Nations title in April last year in Sri Lanka led by third row forward Yoshitha Rajapaksa. Former Peterite and Havelocks Centre Dhanushka Ranjan, Navy’s centre Lee Keegal, Kandy SC’s Heshan Kalhara will don the Sri Lanka jersey for the first time in 15-a-side rugby while former Sri Lanka skipper Dushanth Lewke makes a welcome return to the national team after a long lay-off.The Sri Lanka team will be coached by Leonard de Zilwa who guided Navy to a rugby double this year while Air Commodore Leonard Rodrigo will be the manager of the team. Sri Lanka’s second match will be against Hong Kong on May 3 at the Race Course Colombo which will be followed by the game against Japan in Tokyo on May 10 while the final game will be against Philippines at the Race Course Colombo on May 17.
