President Invites New UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to Visit SL!

President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that he invites the new UN High Commissioner for human rights to visit Sri Lanka within the year. The president has made this statement in a joint statement issued together with Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe.

During Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s official visit to Sri Lanka it was decided to elevate Japanese Sri Lankan relations into a new partnership between maritime countries.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had called on the Japanese premier to invest in Sri Lanka’s new port and airport.

Prime minister Abe visited the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya on Monday morning prior to his departure from the country. Chief incumbent of the Raja Maha Viharaya invoked blessings on the Japanese Premier.

The Prime Minister also interacted with several devotees at the temple . Thereafter, Prime Minister Abe travelled to the Katunayake Airport where he boarded a special flight.

This is incidentally the first time in 24 years that a Japanese head of state visited Sri Lanka.
