Sri Lanka Telecom In High Speed Submarine Cable!
With telecom traffic growing fast existing cable systems such as SEA-ME-WE 4 are getting heavily loaded, SLT said.
The 20,000 kilometre cable system, knitting together 17 countries can carry 24,000 Giga bits per second (24 Tera bits per second), which is equal to transmitting 4800 high-definition movies every second.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of Sri Lanka Telecom, Lalith De Silva said the cable will cater to expected high demand and help boost economic activity in the country.
The SEA-ME-WE-05 cable is made up of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL), China Mobile International Limited (CMI), China Telecommunications Global Limited (CTG), China United Network Communications Group Company Limited (CU), Myanmar Post and Telecom (MPT), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT), Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) from Asia.
Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) and Yemen International Telecommunications Co. (TeleYemen) are from the Middle East.
Others include Orange (formerly France Telecom FT), Telecom Italia Sparkle (TIS), TOT Public Company Limited.
