Sri Lanka trashed rookie South Korea in curtain raiser – Asian Games!
The Sri Lanka team consist with many national color holders lead by Sri Lanka National team vice captain Lahiru Thirimanne. Sri Lanka who has never played under the artificial conditions of Korea used the opportunity against South Korea as a practice venue for the tough competition scheduled to play in Semi Finals against Bangladesh.
The skipper Lahiru Thirimanne expressed their plan at an interview followed by the match held today “We never played in these conditions before, the ball used to travel slow on the wicket and uneven low bounce was a tough challenge. We wanted to bat first, coz we wanted to have a good practice on the wicket”
South Korea won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first, the Korean skipper made the wrong call, as Sri Lanka prepared to bat first for to have a competitive warm up session.
Sri Lanka lost opener Shehan Jayasuriya as the first wicket of the match at the full total of once, Dinesh Chandimal joined the senior national opener Upul Tharanga in the very first over with a anonymous pressure.
However, both NCC companions lead the Sri Lankan inning with a mammoth partnership of 126 runs in 54 deliveries for the 2nd wicket.
Upul Tharanga has no pressure from opponents to score free hand as they found the rhythm of the wickets behavior. Tharanga scored 54 in 41 deliveries which was consist with 8 boundaries.
Dinesh Chandimal played a gem of knock to put Sri Lanka on top as the middle order collapsed. Chandimal scored 83 in just 51 deliveries with the strike rate of 162.74. His inning consisted with 6 boundaries and three sixes.
Sri Lanka’s last 5 wickets fell with in 18 balls and they only managed to score 24 runs during three death overs.
Sri Lanka will play in Semi Finals on Thursday(02) at 10.30 AM Sri Lanka time.
